Welcome to the 20.109 Class Blog! Our 20.109 Blog is here for MIT's emerging cadre of biological engineers from Course 20. The blog is for your thoughts and work and discoveries in our lab fundamentals class. By capturing your collective experiences in the subject, we hope to learn even more about the work we do -- what's working well and where we need to get better. Please see the first blog post for some important administrative information.

When you let the kids run wild...
Throughout this semester in 20.109, the instructors and professors have done a great job of taking us by the hand and leading us down the path to bioengineering enlightenment. They have clearly outlined what we need to do in each step of the research process, but now in module 3, we're finally getting the chance to run free, and let me tell you, it's exhilarating. After talking through our project with the instructors and Professor Belcher, I could feel myself on the verge of a huge nerding out session. I couldn't wait to get to work on my project. When I think about the ideas that we have, I just get so excited because I actually believe in what we're working towards. The theory makes sense given the past research, and with the proper tools, I could see how our project could actually be used in the medical field today. It's like I'm living out my dream job right now. If in my future I'm given the ability to read literature and take those ideas and run in any direction my mind takes me, then I think that would be the coolest job ever. The excitement I feel about this project is that excitement that I hope I will carry with me throughout the rest of my time with bioengineering. I think my mind does tend to get overexcited at times, and I get carried away with all my ideas, sometimes carried away to a place that may not entirely make sense, but that opportunity to get to run with my thoughts is invaluable to me. It's something you are very rarely allowed to do in a structured classroom, and I can't wait to pull this project together and see the final result. Even more excitingly, I can't wait to see all the great ideas everyone else comes up with!
